Forum Finan: Gender Equality, Empowerment of Women and Coherence in Development Policies

The achievement of gender-equality and empowerment of women is widely recognised as an important and indispensable milestone on the way to sustainable growth and poverty reduction in the world. In its 52nd session the UN-Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is dealing with the issue of financing for genderequality, trying to prepare the financial basis for mainstreaming gender equality in all sectors, in all development strategies and in national budgets.

Mainstreaming does not only require bringing gender-equality and empowerment of women on board on all levels and segments of development policy, but it also poses the need to do so coherently. In national development strategies in poor countries the quest for gender-equality must be a unique approach in all its elements, also comprising economic policy, aiming for pro-poor, pro-women and inequality reducing growth. Donor countries are challenged to bring all their policies including their external economic and trade policies in line with the global development goals.

A distinguished panel of international and Austrian gender experts will discuss the degree of achievement of the gender-goal amongst the Millennium Development Goals and the World Bank‘s approach to gender equality, and examine the perspectives of the Austrian bilateral/multilateral development co-operation and of the Austrian civil society, focussing on coherence issues and the way forward in financing for gender equality after CSW 52.

Die Veranstaltung wird in englischer Sprache abgehalten.
