Finance Minister Gernot Blümel on the agreement of the EU Finance Ministers on an aid package in the Corona crisis

Half a billion euros will be used to support Member States, businesses and employees. At the same time, it was agreed to work on a “reconstruction fund” for the post-crisis period.

“For our economy to regain momentum, it is also necessary for an export-oriented country such as ours that the economies around us recover. Therefore, we will of course participate as partners in solidarity in a recovery effort. For us, it was and is important that the current crisis does not serve as a back-door for the communitarisation of debt through Eurobonds. The present agreement allows for targeted assistance to the countries concerned without jeopardising the long-term stability of the eurozone. Today’s agreement is an important step in combating the crisis and for a strong comeback for Europe,” said Finance Minister Gernot Blümel.
