Handover at the Ministry of Finance

Following the inauguration of the new Austrian federal government, this afternoon at the Austrian Ministry of Finance, the reins of office were handed over to Gernot Blümel, as Edouard Müller symbolically handed over the historic keys of the Finance Ministry to the Ministry's new boss.

New Finance Minister Gernot Blümel thanked his predecessor for the work he had undertaken: "I would like to thank Eduard Müller for his excellent work and cooperation over the past months, and I am glad in the knowledge that he will continue to act in a key supporting role within the Ministry."

Looking ahead to his future role, Gernot Blümel stressed the Austrian Finance Ministry's excellent reputation: "I am approaching my new role with humility, gratitude and awareness of the responsibility which I bear. I have come to know the Finance Ministry already from a number of different perspectives over the past few years. When I worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I came to know the Ministry of Finance as a tough negotiating partner. Following on from that, as government coordinator, I had the task of ensuring a balanced budget jointly with the then Finance Minister Hartwig Löger. Back during my studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, I already came into contact with the Finance Ministry, writing my degree dissertation on the subject of "Project Management in the Civil Service", during the course of which I conducted a case study within the Finance Ministry involving a series of interviews.

In this context, I consistently observed how all staff work in a highly-professional and customer-friendly manner. Thus, from my perspective, the Austrian Finance Ministry is quite rightly preceded by its reputation , and I am looking forward to this exciting new role and to working in a positive spirit of partnership."
