Here you will find the latest developments and deadlines regarding the digitalization of customs processes within the framework of Smart Border Austria.

Previous Project Phases:
The following processes are already in regular operation:
- Location of Goods Corridor – Entry & Exit: Since 01.07.2024.
- Transit – Entry: Mandatory since 01.01.2026.
Digitalization and Launch of the "Rolling Corridor" Pilot Phase
The digitalization of the border customs offices entails an exclusive transition to the digital processes of Smart Border Austria. Once a customs office has been digitalized, the paper-based routing slip procedure can no longer be used at that location.
The pilot phase for the Rolling Corridor process and the successive digitalization of the border customs offices will start on the following dates:
- 18 June 2026 – Tisis Border Customs Office
- 31 August 2026 – Höchst Border Customs Office
- 30 September 2026 – Hohenems Border Customs Office (Exit only!)
- 12 October 2026 – Mäder Border Customs Office
- 02 November 2026 – Meiningen Border Customs Office
- 30 November 2026 – Lustenau Border Customs Office
Termination of the Routing Slip Procedure:
The paper-based routing slip procedure will be fully terminated on 13 October 2026. From this point forward, participation in the Smart Border Austria processes is mandatory for cross-border freight transport.
Full-Scale Operation:
The full-scale regular operation for the Border Crossing Light and Rolling Corridor processes is scheduled to begin on: 01 December 2026
