Austrian Draft Budgetary Plan 2025 and 2026

In accordance with Article 4 (2) of Regulation (EU) 473/2013, draft budgetary plans must be prepared and published by 15 October of each year. The plans are supposed to contain the draft budget for the subsequent year for the federal government, the main parameters for the other sectors of the state and the implementation of the fiscal structural plan. The process is a central instrument of fiscal policy coordination in the euro area.

As a new National Council was elected in Austria on 29 September 2024, a draft budgetary plan for the year 2025 was not prepared in October 2024. The plan will now be presented together with the planning for 2026. The plan must be published and forwarded to the European Commission and the Eurogroup.

The Austrian Draft Budgetary Plan 2025 and 2026 follows the requirements of the ‘Two Pack Code of Conduct’ in terms of content and form as well as the adjustments in in the context of the reformed EU fiscal rules. The draft budgetary plan is based on the national accounts data (ESA 2010) from Statistics Austria (STAT) as well as the Federal Ministry of Finance's own calculations and estimates using the economic forecast from the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) from spring 2025.

The Austrian Draft Budgetary Plan 2025 and 2026 (PDF, 621 KB) was approved by the Council of Ministers on 13 May 2025 (English version as an unofficial courtesy translation of the offical German version).
