Supreme Postal Authority To be able to manage all tasks related to the postal sector, the Supreme Postal Authority is located at the Federal Ministry for Finance, in Directorate General VI. As of 1 January 2008 the regulatory affairs were transferred to Rundfunk und Telekom Regulierungsbehörde-GesmbH.
The Directorate IV/1 General Affairs of Telecommunications and Postal Services is in charge of the tasks of the Supreme Postal Authority.

- Development of the planning basis for postal policy
- Coordination of Austria's participation in international
- organisations:
- European Union (EU)
- Universal Postal Union (UPU)
- European Committee for Postal Regulation (CERP)
- Execution of postal legislation, decrees etc.
