Change of office at the Ministry of Finance
 
Minister of Finance Markus Marterbauer took over the key to the Ministry of Finance from Gunter Mayr in the presence of State Secretary Eibinger-Miedl

At the traditional handover of keys at the Ministry of Finance, the outgoing minister Dr Gunter Mayr, handed over the key to the Ministry of Finance to the new finance minister, Dr Markus Marterbauer, and to the state secretary for finance, Barbara Eibinger-Miedl.

During the handover, the new head of the department, Markus Marterbauer, thanked his predecessor Gunter Mayr for his work over the past few months and for the professional handover: ‘The Ministry of Finance is a traditional and extremely well-run organisation with a high level of expertise and a wealth of experience. Our republic faces major challenges, which we will tackle together and with a sense of purpose. I am aware of the responsibility and look forward to the new tasks. Together and in consensus, we want to find good solutions for the benefit of the Republic.’

In his speech, Minister Gunter Mayr looked back on his term of office and wished his successor every success: ‘My time as Minister of Finance was very much characterised by the difficult budgetary situation in which Austria currently finds itself. I would like to thank my colleagues at the Ministry of Finance for their tireless efforts in recent weeks and months and welcome my successor, Dr Markus Marterbauer, to the Ministry of Finance. I am now looking forward to continuing my work as Head of the Tax Section and to returning to the Vienna Law School as a professor.’

State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl has also taken office: ‘I am very motivated to take up the post of State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Finance is excellently organised, characterised by the outstanding expertise of its staff, and I look forward to working with them. Only by working together will we be able to tackle the budgetary challenges responsibly and with prudence, thus making an important contribution to the future of our country.’ The State Secretary has been assigned the areas of customs law, customs policy and international customs matters, export promotion and export financing policy, capital market law, fintech and financial education, as well as double tax conventions for procurement.

In addition,  Stefan Imhof was appointed Secretary General on Monday, with responsibility for the overall coordination of all business within the remit of the Federal Ministry.
